由Taylor & Francis集团和武汉大学合作出版、李德仁院士担任主编的Geo-spatial Information Science (地球空间信息科学学报，GSIS）已于近日出版了本刊二十周年纪念的特别专辑：Perspectives on the Nature of Geo-spatial Information。本专辑由GSIS副主编John van Genderen教授组稿并题序介绍。专辑论文上线后，已得到了包括学界和社交媒体等方面的广泛关注，下载量持续大幅增长。
自二十世纪60年代以来，遥感、GIS、GPS及其他地理空间信息技术已经渗透到人们日常生活的各个方面。智能手机、社交媒体、云计算、大数据、物联网、人工智能、机器人、增强现实以及许多其他热点科技和应用使基于地理空间信息的服务（例如基于位置的服务）被广泛应用于建筑、工业、商业、农业、国防安全、灾害管理、农业以及诸多社会领域。
在这样的大背景下，本专辑“Perspectives on the Nature of Geo-spatial Information”的选文从学术、教育、政治（全球可持续发展）、工商业、安全、地理空间信息标准化以及技术应用等不同的视角全方位地展示了地理空间信息的特质。该专辑共13篇论文，作者大多为地理空间信息科学领域的国际权威学者或行业资深（首席）专家，来自包括诸多重要国际组织的13个国家(如: 联合国、GEO、OGC、HEXAGON)，充分体现了GSIS期刊的国际化。

John van Genderen教授简介：
荷兰Twente大学地理信息科学和地球观测学院（ITC）教授，在诸多发展中国家的大学担任"遥感教授"，并在全世界140多个国家开展教学、研究和咨询项目。历任遥感学会联合创始人（1974），荷兰遥感学会主席（1987?1989），联合国欠发达国家利用地球观测促进可持续发展工作组荷兰代表，欧洲联盟委员会发展中国家遥感应用专题协调组主席（1994?1997）等重要学术职务。
