Launched in June 2013, the Collaborative Innovation Center for Geospatial Information Science of Wuhan University is committed to academic excellence by gathering world-class scientists to carry out original, leading-edge and interdisciplinary research. The motto of the Center is “Innovation through Collaboration”. The Center assures to create a mechanism that is able to attract top talents, inspire their creativity and help them build productive teams.

The Center has identified the following six (6) priority areas: 1) geospatial and time references, 2) remote sensing for Earth observation, 3) satellite positioning and navigation, 4) atmospheric remote sensing, 5) space communication network, and 6) geospatial information service. Six (6) teams, one for each area, are to be built within the Center by June 2014, with a total of approximately 50 people.

For each team, we are seeking applications for the following positions. Besides fluent English communication proficiency, additional credentials are listed below:

Chief scientist (1)

· Internationally recognized scholar with outstanding publication or innovation record

· Proved leadership and team management experience

· Professor or equivalent in leading research institutions

· Preferably to be able to work full time at the Center, however, no less than three (3) months per year

Senior scientists (1-2)

· Recognized scholar with good publication or innovation record

· Demonstrated experience in proposal development and team work

· Associate professor or equivalent in leading institutions

· To be able to work full time at the Center

Scientists (3-5)

· Demonstrated publication or innovation record

· Strong development skills

· To be able to work full time at the Center

The monthly salary scale for chief scientists, senior scientists, and scientists is respectively RMB 40,000-50,000, 30,000-40,000, and 20,000-30,000. Note: the current exchange rate is approximately 1 US$ = 6.2 RMB.

The initial appointment will be for three (3) years, with the renewable opportunity for another three-year term. At the end of the second term, outstanding individuals will be considered for tenure as a permanent employee of Wuhan University.
